Death Had A Yellow Thumb Review

Joan Del Monte's” DEATH HAD A YELLOW THUMB” is an engrossing, intelligent, and informative mystery, chock-a-block full of colorful characters, unforeseen twists, and fascinating history. It is fresh and invigoration as the sea breeze in San Pedro.
James Cass Rogers, Author, “Venice to Avalon”

The centuries-old saffron mystique is a terrific device for a mystery.

Hands down, “DEATH HAD A YELLOW THUMB” is a good read. See all my reviews. Seems like Joan Del Monte just gets better with each book she writes.

This is more tightly plotted than “PLONK GOES THE WEASEL” and not as light-hearted --- but it sets you wondering just how much of “DEATH HAD A YELLOW THUMB” is true. Saffron is indeed the world's most expensive spice, and there surely is a black market for it --- to what ends would smugglers go, if they could make big bucks without causing alarm to drug sniffing dogs? (Hint: the murderer is not who you, the reader, think it is going to be.) And some of the research that slips into the book: think of what happened if Escoffier met Mickey Spillane. Are those bloodstains or cooking stains on your favorite cookbook?

A great read about the origins of saffron, its uses, and the reason for its high price. A wonderful mystery!
